Dear Members of the Orange Community:
Like so many of you, I am disgusted by the horrific acts of hate and violence that tragically claimed the lives of eight people in the Atlanta area last night. While law enforcement is still investigating the motivation behind this violence, it is clear that six of the victims were women of Asian descent.
These shootings occur in the midst of a rising tide of racist and violent acts targeting Asian and Asian American communities. Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Keith A. Alford and I shared our grave concern about this trend last week.
Acts of violence understandably create fear and isolation. To our Asian and Asian American friends, colleagues and neighbors, please know that we at Syracuse University support you. Together, all of us must condemn this violence and stand with those targeted by hate.
