The College of Arts and Sciences invites applications from full-time tenure-track and tenured faculty members completing a book-length manuscript to apply for funds to enable three senior, external scholars in their field to read and comment on their manuscript and participate in a virtual workshop. The pilot program is intended to support the successful completion of a scholarly manuscript.
Faculty in the Departments of African American Studies, Languages, Literature and Linguistics, English, Art and Music Histories, Philosophy, Religion, Writing Studies, Rhetoric and Composition and Women’s and Gender Studies are eligible to apply.
The visiting scholars, selected by the Syracuse University faculty member, will receive an honorarium of $1,000 in return for a commitment to read and comment on the manuscript. Additional faculty internal to Syracuse University who agree to read the manuscript may also participate in the virtual workshop, anticipated to run approximately three hours.
In its initial pilot phase, the Manuscript Workshop program will fund one workshop for a pre-tenure faculty member and one workshop for a post-tenure faculty member at the level of associate professor. The virtual workshops are to be held at any time during the 2021-22 academic year and no later than the end of the spring semester.
Once the manuscript reaches the publication process, the author is expected to share a one-page final report detailing how the manuscript workshop contributed to the successful completion of the manuscript.
To apply, complete the application by Monday, April 12 at 5 p.m. Selections will be made by Monday, May 3, 2021.
