Whitney Phillips, assistant professor of communication and rhetorical studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, was interviewed for the NPR story “On Far-Right Websites, Plans To Storm Capitol Were Made In Plain Sight.” Phillips, who studies misinformation and disinformation, says that the she had been expecting these sorts of attacks based on her research over the past several months. “So what happened in the Capitol is really the culmination of months and in some cases years of belief in the sort of paradigmatic world in which you have a very clear set of bad guys who are out to get Trump, and you have a very clear set of good guys who are fighting that battle,” Phillips says.
