A Diversity Inc. story about Project AHEAD, a new initiative of the PhD Project, notes Whitman School of Management Dean Melvin T. Stith is a member of the PhD Project Deans Advisory Board. The PhD Project addresses underrepresentation of African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans and Native Americans in management faculty positions; Project AHEAD will provide support for minority business school professors who wish to advance to administrative positions.

Evan J. Criddle, assistant professor in the College of Law, commented for a National Law Journal article about an ethics case involving a justice in the Philippines Supreme Court and faculty members of the law school in Manila. Additionally, a Philippine Star article commented on the case.

WRVO radio provided an audio link to an op-ed by Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, about voter frustration, negative campaigning and a “none of the above” voting option.

Students in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications who are engaged in the Democracy in Action project and will cover individual democracy stories around Central New York Tuesday were highlighted in a Post-Standard story. Charlotte Grimes, the Knight Chair in Political Reporting at the Newhouse School, and Chris Tuohey, associate professor of broadcast and print journalism at Newhouse, were quoted.

The Post-Standard reported on repairs underway on the exterior paneling of the SyracuseCoE. Ed Bogucz, executive director of SyracuseCoE, and James Alfiere, senior project manager in Syracuse University’s Office of Campus Planning, Design and Construction, are quoted.

Rochester’s WROC News8 reported briefly Saturday on SU’s advice to students about making thoughtful choices in Halloween costumes.

FACULTY QUOTES

A Bloomberg article about the recent report on gross domestic production in the United States and other tax and economic data cited David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law and Whitman School of Management. Johnston’s Tax.com analysis about the impact of the Bush-era tax cuts on the American economy was commented on by Democrat and Chronicle (Rochester, N.Y.), Los Angeles Times and Daily Finance articles and in Global Research and Huffington Post blog entries. His Tax Notes column was reprinted in Business Ethics Magazine. Broadcast coverage of Johnston on the topic included WXXI public radio in Rochester; KFPA‘s “Behind the News with Doug Henwood” show; and GRIT-TV. Additionally, Johnston’s suggestion for journalists dealing with coverage of WikiLeak documents was noted in a Nieman Journalism Lab weekly roundup.

John M. Torrens, professor of accounting in the Whitman School of Management, commented for an Entrepreneur story about barter and other entrepreneurial means of accessing consulting expertise.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted about the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert rally in stories aired on Washington’s WTOP radio (listen to audio clip)  and appearing in UPI, Toronto Star, Guardian (UK) and New Zealand Herald news and commentary.
