Please Review: Spring 2021 Check-In Procedures for Syracuse University Students (Students from all states non-contiguous to New York State and international locations)

Dear Students and Families:

We look forward to welcoming you back to Syracuse in just a few weeks. As you plan your return to campus, please carefully review the enclosed check-in procedures that are based on the most current public health guidance provided by New York State. All students, including those living off-campus, will need to follow the procedures outlined below to access campus, including attending in-person classes.

We recognize there is a lot of information below and the volume may be overwhelming. This email is organized in the following order:

Move-In Logistics for On-Campus Students

Spring 2021 Check-In Dates and Move-In Registration

• Housing Portal to Open Friday, Jan. 15, at Noon ET: All students living in on-campus housing, including on South Campus, must register for a designated move-in time on the MySlice Housing Portal.
• Move-In to Occur Jan. 30-31, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.: Residential move-in for students from all states non-contiguous to New York State and international locations.
• No Move-In Allowed Between Feb. 1 and Feb. 5: No students will be allowed to move into their on-campus residence in the time period between Feb. 1 and Feb. 5.

On-Campus Check-In Center

• Check-in for all students living in on-campus housing will be located at the Ensley Athletic Center (navigate to the Manley South Lot) on Jan. 30-31 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Students and families must start here.
• At check-in, students will be asked to take the following steps:
  • Confirm proof of pre-arrival negative COVID test (via Patient Portal or hard copy results)
  • Verify proof of flu vaccine or exemption (via Patient Portal or hard copy)
  • Participate in COVID saliva surveillance testing
  • Affirm Stay Safe Pledge
• To speed up the check-in process, students are strongly encouraged to upload the results of their pre-arrival negative COVID test and proof of flu vaccine to the Student Patient Portal prior to arrival at the check-in center.
• At the conclusion of the check-in process, on-campus residents will be issued a wristband to demonstrate proof of compliance and will proceed to their residence hall or to South Campus check-in.

Keys and SU I.D. Cards

• Once students have completed the check-in procedures at the Ensley Center, they will proceed to their residence hall or South Campus where they will be issued the keys to their room or apartment.
• Students arriving on campus for the first time will also receive their SU I.D. card at check-in.

Move-In Health and Safety Guidelines for All Residential Students

The following health and safety guidelines must be followed during the move-in process:

• Students will only be permitted to move in during their scheduled time.
• No guests will be allowed in residence halls or apartments. Guests will be asked to stay by their vehicles to assist students. Move-in bins will be available. If further accommodation or additional assistance is needed, please reach out to the Office of Student Living at osl@syr.edu.
• Guests of students may only stay on campus for two hours from the time the student arrives at their on-campus residence.
• Masks must be worn at all times.
• Roommates are encouraged to stagger their move-in times.

Off-Campus Student Check-In

• All students living off-campus will check in at the Stadium Testing Center, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the period between Saturday, Jan. 30, through Monday, Feb. 8. At check-in, students will be asked to take the following steps:
  • Confirm proof of pre-arrival negative COVID test (via Patient Portal or hard copy results)
  • Verify proof of flu vaccine or exemption (via Patient Portal or hard copy)
  • Participate in COVID saliva surveillance testing
  • Verify local address
  • Affirm Stay Safe Pledge
• To speed up the check-in process, students are strongly encouraged to upload the results of their pre-arrival negative COVID test and proof of flu vaccine to the Student Patient Portal prior to arrival at the check-in center.

Pre-Arrival Testing and Quarantine Requirements

• You must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to accessing on-campus facilities, including on-campus housing.
• International travelers should review Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines as it relates to testing requirements and plan accordingly. As of yesterday, the CDC advised that all international travelers must provide proof of a negative test prior to boarding planes bound for the United States.
• In accordance with the New York State travel advisory, you will be required to comply with quarantine guidelines upon arrival in New York.
• Additional details on testing and quarantine requirements will be sent tomorrow in a separate communication.

Financial Assistance

The pandemic has created financial hardship for many in our community. Please know there may be financial assistance available.

• Please review information about emergency funding and complete the financial appeal for U.S. citizens/permanent residents or financial appeal for international students to apply.
• These requests will be reviewed quickly. Decisions are based on financial need and/or hardship.

As noted above, tomorrow, you will receive a comprehensive overview of testing and quarantining expectations. And, later this week, we will announce a series of virtual discussions, similar to the series we held last summer ahead of move-in.
