With the limitation of study abroad programs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Syracuse Abroad faculty will offer their global expertise through online classes available to all Syracuse University students.
“Syracuse Abroad faculty teach courses that are generally available only to program participants. The pandemic has given us an opportunity to offer their expertise to all Syracuse University students through Winterlude and Spring 2021 classes,” said Erika Wilkens, Assistant Provost and Executive Director of Syracuse Abroad.
Students can now connect with instructors in Santiago, Madrid, Strasbourg, Florence and London to earn credit in history, philosophy, economics, business, communications, film, fashion and cultural studies.
“Our students regularly report that their study abroad experience is enhanced because of the deep cultural and disciplinary expertise that our faculty bring to the classes,” said Wilkens. “Now students have the unique opportunity to benefit from this expertise, with some of our most engaging faculty, from home.”
While the pandemic is keeping students in Syracuse, they can still take a deep dive into courses exploring the history, politics, business and cultures where Syracuse Abroad faculty live and work.
“It’s disappointing to everyone that these experiences are currently limited, but we’re determined to innovate to bring a taste of Syracuse Abroad to our students. We encourage anyone interested in studying in Chile, Strasbourg, Florence or London, as well as students looking to broaden their global expertise while remaining in the United States, to check out these courses,” Wilkens said.
