Spring Semester Registration

Monday, November 9, 2020, By News Staff

Dear Undergraduate Students:

You are now able to view the Spring 2021 schedule in MySlice and start to plan your course selections for the spring semester. As you make your choices you should consider the anticipated instructional format for each course. When you view a course in MySlice, next to “Mode of Instruction,” you will see one of three modes:

  • In Person (P): Conducted fully in person, these courses will not be accessible remotely for distance students.
  • Hybrid (H): Includes a combination of in-person and online instruction. These courses will be accessible to students who are not on campus.
  • Online (O): Conducted fully online, these courses will be accessible to students regardless of their location.

The instruction mode is displayed for each class section (lecture, recitations, labs, etc.) in the class search feature of MySlice. After you have completed your registration, you will be able to view the mode of instruction for your classes via the list view of your class schedule in MySlice.

Expectations for In-Residence Students:

Students who will be on campus in the spring semester may sign up for classes in any of the teaching modes. If you sign up for any in-person classes, you will be expected to physically attend each session in the assigned classroom. These courses will not be streamed or recorded. As with courses that were taught before the pandemic, if you have to miss a class due to illness, disability or other excused absence, the instructor will work with you to help you catch up.  As in the current semester, you are expected to stay home when you are ill.

If you sign up for any hybrid classes, you will be expected to attend live sessions of the class on the days designated for in-person instruction, unless you are ill or have an excused absence.

Expectations for Remote Students:

Students who will not be on campus for the spring semester are limited to enrolling in courses taught in hybrid (H) or online (O) modes only. You must not register for any in-person courses, as they will not have an online component to accommodate you. You will be expected to attend and participate in all synchronous class sessions.

If you are planning to take your classes while living away from Syracuse in the spring semester, you must let us know by completing this questionnaire. Remote students will not have in-person access to campus facilities, including the library and the Barnes Center at The Arch.

Please work with your academic advisor(s) to resolve any conflicts related to your course selections for the spring semester. They are here to work with you and help you continue to make progress toward your degree.

Best wishes,

Chris Johnson
Associate Provost for Academic Affairs
