“Finding Vibrant Views: Madison County Man Helps Create Foliage Map.”
Alan Middleton, Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship and professor of physics in the College of Arts and Sciences, was interviewed for the Spectrum News story “Finding Vibrant Views: Madison County Man Helps Create Foliage Map.” Scott Flaherty, the Executive Director of Madison County Tourism, created the map to help boost safe tourism to the region during the pandemic. He found that some trees, so far, have only changed color at the bottom. Middleton explains this phenomenon, saying that “each tree has its own sequence on how it changes, and it depends upon the weather and that’s why some seasons it’s different than others and how they respond to the different temperatures and the different amounts of light.”
