Another Weekend Is Here: Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, Stay in Central New York!

COVID 19Student Experience

Dear Students:

Another weekend is upon us. We’ve made it through four full weeks of the semester. Thank you for making this possible. But please don’t let your guard down now. As we’ve seen in recent days, it’s on all of us to keep our bubble intact. Traveling and socializing outside of Central New York, or inviting friends or loved ones here, increases COVID-19 cases in our community. So, as we head into another weekend, remember, keeping yourself and those around you healthy and safe is simple. Just take these steps:

  1. Avoid traveling outside of Central New York or to other college campuses.
  2. Do not host visitors from outside the Central New York community.
  3. Wear your mask or face covering, always!
  4. Maintain 6 feet of distance.
  5. Limit the size of social gatherings.
  6. Wash your hands often.

We recognize this weekend is especially important for our Jewish students with Rosh Hashanah beginning tomorrow night. We know it’s difficult not to be able to travel home or have family visit during this special time. We are grateful to Hillel for creating meaningful opportunities to virtually celebrate the Jewish New Year. Please visit Hillel’s website to learn more.

There are a lot of great events and activities on campus and around our region this weekend. Be sure to visit the University’s events calendar to learn about what’s scheduled this weekend and beyond. Some highlights include:

Thursday, Sept. 17

  • University Union Screening of “The High Note”
  • Glow Skate at the Tennity Ice Pavilion
  • Orange After Dark: “Frozen II” on the Quad

Friday, Sept. 18

  • Orange After Dark: Pinterest Party
  • Silent Disco: DJ Battle Edition
  • iHeartRadio Music Festival Watch Party (Day 1)

Saturday, Sept. 19

  • Orange After Dark: Day at the Challenge Course
  • Glow Skate at the Tennity Ice Pavilion
  • Orange After Dark Late-Night Movie: “Crazy Rich Asians”
  • iHeartRadio Music Festival Watch Party (Day 2)

Sunday, Sept. 20

  • Orange After Dark: Late Night Movie “Crazy Rich Asians”
  • Music and Message

We are fully aware that this semester has been anything but normal. We’ve asked a lot of you. And we need and expect your continued cooperation and compliance. Our ability to keep you on campus depends on your commitment to health and safety. Keep up the good work. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Do your part.

Sincerely,

J. Michael Haynie
Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives and Innovation

Robert D. Hradsky, Ed.D.
Vice President for the Student Experience
