Eric Schiff, professor of physics in the College of Arts and Sciences and interim director of the Center of Excellence, was interviewed for the CNY Central story “Masks and proper ventilation reduces spread of COVID-19 in schools, S.U. professor finds.” Schiff’s research shows that it is important that schools enforce mask wearing and have good ventilation, because “if you don’t have both, there is an occasional chance that someone will come into the classroom undetected and spread the disease to a significant fraction of the students,” says Schiff.
