Weekend Activities, Safely Socializing and Important Health Reminders

COVID 19

Dear Students:

As we approach another weekend on the Syracuse University campus, we want to acknowledge your continued efforts to keep yourselves, your classmates and other members of our community safe and healthy. You have demonstrated that you are willing and more than capable of elevating to the challenge that is college in the time of COVID-19.

You have embraced your role and responsibility to safeguard the well-being of our campus and the Central New York community. On campus, you are wearing your masks, keeping your distance, participating safely in activities, spending time with friends and discovering new interests and hobbies. You are doing it right, and in the process exhibiting resilience, selflessness and maturity. Your resolve and attentiveness to our collective health is the reason why we can all still be on campus.

As the weekend gets underway, please remember to stay vigilant and stay safe—and don’t forget about the events and activities planned over the next few days. Be sure to visit the University’s events calendar to learn about what’s scheduled this weekend and beyond. Some highlights include:

Thursday, Sept. 10

  • Esports: Fortnite
  • Orange After Dark Trivia Night
  • University Union “Parasite” Movie Screening (Multiple screenings throughout the weekend)

Friday, Sept. 11

  • “The Office” and S’Mores!
  • Glow Skate at Tennity Ice Pavilion
  • Orange After Dark Grocery Bingo

Saturday, Sept. 12

  • Glow Skate at Tennity Ice Pavilion
  • Batting Cages, Driving Range and Go-Karts
  • Orange After Dark Late Night Movie: “Gretel and Hansel” (Multiple screenings throughout the weekend)
  • Silent Disco: Glow Jam Edition

There are also many ways to stay active this weekend beyond our organized events. From apple picking to hiking, checking out area attractions and exploring the many nearby communities, the options available to you are unlimited. Take advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoy all Central New York has to offer.

Of course, for those of you who enjoy watching Orange athletics, Syracuse Football kicks off this weekend with a road game at UNC-Chapel Hill. As a reminder, we strongly discourage travel outside of Central New York, but watching the game at noon on Saturday in one of the lounge areas or common spaces is an exciting way to show your support and Orange spirit! If you travel to any states on the state’s travel advisory, please note you will be required to quarantine at your own expense.

Know this: we are proud of you, we appreciate you and, because of you, we are confident we will continue to experience this semester together, on campus. Have a great weekend and stay safe.

Sincerely,
J. Michael Haynie
Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives and Innovation

Robert D. Hradsky
Vice President for the Student Experience
