Shana Kushner Gadarian, associate professor of political science in the Maxwell School, was quoted in the New York Times story, “A Detailed Map of Who Is Wearing Masks in the U.S.” Gadarian, an expert on American politics and the intersection of public health and public opinion, has been researching what the best predictor of mask use is in the U.S., and has found that “political party is a better predictor of mask use than any other factor.” She says that “the big takeaway of all of the data is partisanship is the big determinant of all of the behavior,” rather than age or where you live.
