Taking Courses Fully Online

Dear Students,

We are looking forward to welcoming you back to campus in just a few short weeks. Our focus continues to be the health and safety of our campus community this fall semester. With that in mind, your academic experience this fall will be a combination of in-person and online instruction.

While the Central New York community has had success limiting the spread of COVID-19, with relatively low rates of infection, the same cannot be said for some other parts of the country. We also understand that many of our international students may not be able to travel to Syracuse for the fall semester. And, students with compromised immune systems or other health concerns may choose to stay at home rather than come to campus.

As a reminder: Students who cannot be on campus this fall can take their courses fully online. If this applies to you, we ask that you complete this questionnaire. Your participation in this questionnaire will allow faculty to plan their courses appropriately and will enable us to optimize the use of our instructional spaces on campus. Please note that if you choose to opt out of in-person instruction, you will not be subject to the SU SAFE public health guidelines. This means you will not be allowed on campus, nor will you be able to access any on-campus facilities, including the Barnes Center at The Arch. If you are planning to return to campus and participate in in-person instruction, you do not need to complete the questionnaire.

This semester will be unlike any other in our history. However, through a combination of regular testing, social distancing, use of personal protective equipment and reduced density in our academic and living spaces, we are confident that, with your help, we can have a successful residential semester.

If you have any questions, please contact your advisor or the advising leader in your home college. A list of these leaders may be found below.

Best wishes,

Zhanjiang (John) Liu
