Internationally renowned Spanish architect to speak at The Warehouse

Internationally renowned Spanish architect to speak at The WarehouseOctober 12, 2006Mary Kate O’Brienmcobrien@syr.edu

Internationally renowned architect Juan Herreros, founder and principal of Abalos and Herreros Architects in Madrid, will speak at the Syracuse University School of Architecture on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 4:30 p.m. in the main auditorium of the school’s home, The Warehouse, 350 W. Fayette St. His lecture, “Infrastructual Geography” is free and open to the public. For information on parking at The Warehouse, call 443-8238.

Herreros is a doctor of architecture, senior professor and head of Teaching Unit Q at the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, where he serves as a member of the expert committee of the Institute for Sustainability. Published works include “Tower and Office: From Modernist Theory to Contemporary Practice” (MIT Press, 2002) and “Recycling Madrid” (Actar, 2001).

The firm was a finalist for the 2005 Mies Van der Rohe Award for the Coast Park Northeast in Barcelona and the 2003 Biennial of Spanish Architecture for the Public Library Usera in Madrid. Its work has been exhibited in collective exhibitions such as “Light Construction,” “Groundswell” and “On Site” (MoMA, New York, 1995, 2005, 2006), as well as “New Trends of Architecture” and “Dialogue” (Tokyo, 2002, 2005). Its most recent solo exhibition, “Grand Tour,” was organized by CAAM in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and ICO in Madrid. The firm’s current projects include apartment and office towers in Vitoria; the Woerman complex in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which consists of apartments, offices, commercial space and a public library; and an art gallery in Miami.
