Message from Chancellor Kent Syverud

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

In recent days, many in our community have come together to offer support to those being most deeply impacted by the coronavirus global emergency. For example, a group of our faculty, staff and students have launched “A Hand for Wuhan,” a fundraising effort to get medical supplies to those most in need, where the virus got its start in Wuhan in China’s Hubei province. I encourage you to visit SU News to read more about this effort and how you can get involved. It would be a wonderful gesture in support of our fellow members of the Orange family if we could join hands in “A Hand for Wuhan” and exceed their expectations for support.

Please imagine the stress, uncertainty and anxiety that our students and community members from China are feeling for their families and loved ones back at home. Many in the global Asian community are being unjustly exposed to added scrutiny simply because of their national origin. Regardless of their homeland, they are an integral part of our Orange community, and your extra kindness and effort for them right now are essential.

These are difficult times for many in our community. I ask that we all continue to extend each other grace. Let’s remember to show each other kindness, respect and understanding.
