HealthyIM plans Band for Health ConcertFebruary 23, 2006Helen Chukwurah Boycehcboyce@syr.edu

The HealthyIM Campus Project is hosting a Band for Health Concert Thursday, March 1, from 6-11 p.m. in the Schine Underground. Performers will include Mike Brindisi, Fazeshift, Coersion and Another Day Late.

Tickets — $5 for SU students and $7 for the general public — can be purchased at the Schine Box Office until 9 p.m. on the day of the concert.

All proceeds from the concert will be donated to the American Heart Association. This event will also be used as an opportunity to encourage and seek participants for the annual Heart Walk. For more information on the concert, theHeart Walk or HealthyIM,contact kdkula@syr.edu or visit http://HealthyIM.syr.edu.

The HealthyIM Campus Project is a unique effort coordinate by the Newhouse School and involving both media and activities. Six principal programs underpin Healthy Campus and represent an unprecedented collaboration among academic disciplines, communications experts and college health professionals from the College of Human Services and Health Professions, Health Services, Food Services, Recreation Services and the Substance Abuse Prevention and Health Enhancement Office.

The programs comprise a series of media campaigns providing practical and useful health information supported by an infrastructure of health promotion activities to facilitate behavioral change. Together, they aim to shift the norms of personal health behaviors among young adults, particularly to promote the belief that “health is cool” and to do something about it within the microcosm of a university campus.
