SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

ABC News on Campus reported on Syracuse University’s Oct. 1 announcement of the historic gift by Howie and Louise Phanstiel to establish the Phanstiel Scholars program at SU.

InsideHigherEd (fourth item) highlighted Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, for his media quotes and pop culture academic expertise.

University College’s Thursday Morning Roundtable was mentioned in the New York Observer and in an Albany Times Union blog for comments made between New York attorney general opponents Eric Schneiderman and Dan Donovan.

Syracuse University is mentioned in a Post-Standard editorial on the Federal Recovery Act.

The Post-Standard provided a large preview of the films and events of the 2010 Syracuse Film Festival.

Syracuse.com briefly previewed the upcoming Center for Health and Behavior seminar on “Environmental Toxicants and Children’s Health: Bridging Multiple Fields.”

The Post-Standard profiled Chris Uyehara, a culinary specialist who teaches at the College of Human Ecology.

FACULTY QUOTES

Keith Bybee, the Paul E. and the Hon. Joanne F. Alper ’72 Judiciary Studies Professor at the College of Law, and his book, “All Judges Are Political—Except When They Are Not”  were featured on WNYC’s Brian Lehrer Show.

The Edmonton Journal reported that Charles T. Driscoll, University Professor of Environmental Systems Engineering in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, is among six scientists selected for an international panel to independently investigate conflicting water monitoring data from Alberta’s oilsands region.

Fox News quoted Jeffrey Stonecash, professor of political science in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, on the Senate race between Joe DioGuardi and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, is mentioned in the Post-Standard for his role as moderator of a Jordan-Elbridge school board meeting. Reeher is also quoted in USA Today on New York’s heated gubernatorial races.

Philip Arnold, associate professor of religion in The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in Leagle.com on a federal court dismissing the Onondaga Nation’s land rights lawsuit.

Elizabethe C. Payne, part-time assistant professor in the Cultural Foundations of Education Department of the School of Education, is quoted in the Post-Standard on the rash of suicides among gay teens.
