School of Architecture

The School of Architecture has again been ranked among the nation’s best schools for the study of architecture. In the 2019-20 rankings report, compiled by DesignIntelligence—the definitive ranking source for schools in architecture, landscape architecture and interiors—the school ranked 5th best overall among undergraduate programs nationwide. The rankings represent the views of academics and hiring managers of architecture and design-professional firms.

The undergraduate bachelor of architecture professional degree program has consistently ranked in the top 10 every year since 2004. The graduate program repeats in the top 20, this year ranked at the 16th position.

Syracuse Architecture also received special “top 10” accolades in all 12 architecture design education focus areas deemed valuable by hiring professionals: communication and presentation skills; construction materials and methods; design technologies; design theory and practice; engineering fundamentals; healthy built environments; interdisciplinary studies; practice management; project planning and management; research; sustainable built environments/adaptive design/resilient design; and transdisciplinary collaboration across A/E/C.

In addition, for the third time in the last five years, Dean Michael Speaks was named among the top 25 most admired educators in architecture, interiors and landscape architecture from input from thousands of design professionals, academic department heads and students.

“We are very proud of our students, faculty and staff, all who make our school among the very best programs in the country,” says Dean Speaks.

Free and open to the public, the full list on DesignIntelligence’s website offers comprehensive top-10 listings at both undergraduate and graduate level across the 12 categories, attained from surveys from more than 9,000 hiring professionals, 123 academics institutions and more than 6,000 students.
