Charles Costa, chief information officer for J.P. Morgan Asset Management, will speak as part of The HUB 2010 Fall Speaker Series on Thursday, Oct. 14.

costaCosta’s presentation, “Beyond Business as Usual: The Search for Innovative Solutions,” will begin at 2 p.m. in room 347 (the Katzer Collaboratory) of Hinds Hall, and is free and open to the public.

During his presentation, Costa will introduce his audience to one of the world’s largest asset and wealth management businesses and the technology and operations team that supports it; explain his team’s mandate to deliver innovative solutions and how they are doing it; and discuss the trends he and his team are exploring in such areas as collaboration, mobile devices and unified communications, deep computing and complex event processing, data management, analytics and visualization, and agile development processes.

Costa is the global head of technology and operations for JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Asset Management (JPMAM) business, which is a global leader in investment and wealth management, with $1.6 trillion in assets under supervision. As CIO, Costa leads a team of more than 5,200 employees worldwide in managing the infrastructure on which JPMAM operates; the development and support of all application suites and discrete systems; and the execution of the workflow supporting the business.

Before assuming his current role in 2008, Costa headed JPMorgan Chase’s largest technology organization, Global Technology Infrastructure (GTI). His wide range of GTI responsibilities included all enterprise hardware and software, global command centers and infrastructure technology products and services; his accomplishments included leading the industry’s largest technology insourcing effort, following the merger of JPMorgan Chase and Bank One in 2007.

Costa has held many other senior roles at the firm, which he joined as a management trainee in 1980. These posts have included heading Commodity, Swaps & Derivatives T&O, the Emerging Market Operations Group and Systems Development and Application Delivery for J.P. Morgan’s Global Markets activities. Costa has also managed information technology, operations, and productivity and quality for Chase Financial Services, which included the firm’s retail branches and the credit card, middle market, and home and auto finance businesses.

Costa received his bachelor’s degree at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, and completed the Executive Management Training Program at Cornell University.
