Social media expert and Syracuse University faculty member Jennifer Grygiel is available to discuss the latest findings in the newly-released Disinformation Report. Assistant Professor of Communications at the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, Jennifer Grygiel says that this shows a memetic attack on US democracy and Russian infiltration of American society. An examination of this report can be seen in Grygiel’s Twitter story Their recommendation are that investigators “need to look at the larger memetic frameworks. For example, ‘Freedom’ is too narrow. Patriotism is what needs to be investigated. Russia and the right have co-opted patriotism as a tool of oppression. This is why domains and page names often have patriot in them,” said Grygiel. Grygiel is a sought-after expert on all issues related to social media and propaganda infiltrating these platforms. Grygiel is the author of an op-ed in the New York Times on memes, entitled “The Left Shouldn’t Be Too Proud to Meme.” Other media commentary can be seen here:
