Tonight, May 2, the annual Take the Mic Poetry Slam, hosted by Verbal Blend poetry program in collaboration with the Poets Learning Community, will serve as a special edition focused on offering a space to share poetry to bring attention to discrimination and biases. In light of recent events on campus, Lianza Isabel Reyes ’20, resident advisor for the Poets Learning Community, reached out to Cedric T. Bolton, coordinator of student engagement in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, offering an opportunity to collaborate and reorganize the slam as a way for students, faculty and staff to use an artistic forum to express themselves. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in 304 Schine Student Center.
Refreshments will be served. Pre-registration is not required. The slam will serve as an open mic and participants can share up to two poems. The traditional slam competition will be hosted in the fall semester.
