Students at the first McNair Scholars Program Dinner and Discussions event.
The McNair Scholars Program of Syracuse University will host the second event of the 2018 Dinner and Discussions Series on Thursday, April 5: a dinner-party take on the normal workshop atmosphere. The event, titled “Journeys to the MD/Ph.D.,” hosts three M.D./Ph.D. students from SUNY Upstate Medical University as well as 15 scholars from the McNair Scholars Program and the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program. It will be held on from 6-8 p.m. in Room 319 in Sims Hall.
Dinner and Discussions was created to give the McNair Scholars a break from the routine of on-campus workshops, while still giving them access to information that is so important to their success. This event was designed to give the scholars real-world networking experience, fine dining practice and a time to engage with each other in a way the creates community.
McNair Scholars are a traditionally marginalized population. They were admitted into the McNair Scholars program because of their competitive grades, desire to obtain a post-baccalaureate degree, and a passion to change their world through contributions in their field.
The McNair Scholars Program continues to create engaging learning experiences for their scholars and keeps students actively connected to their future aspirations.
