Indictment Reveals Social Marketing Expertise Used By Russian Government, Specialists

On February 16, more than a dozen Russian nationals and three Russian entities were indicted on charges that they interfered with the U.S. election. The charges were brought by Special Counsel Robert Muller, who has been investigating reports of meddling in the 2016 election.

Jennifer Grygiel, assistant professor of communication at Syracuse University and social media expert, comments on the social media marketing techniques documented in the indictment.

 

Grygiel says:

“What’s interesting about the indictment is the amount of social media marketing techniques that were used by the Russian government and documented in the indictment.

“The Russian government, and its specialists, have demonstrated their social media marketing expertise.”
