Kuusisto Raises Concerns Over Delta’s Disability Regulations

Delta Airlines has updated its regulations regarding passengers who require in-flight service animals. While, of course, the aim of these changes is to help, Syracuse School of Education Professor, and seeing-eye dog user, Stephen Kuusisto says that these updates actually hurt the experience of anyone needing service animal support.

“Delta imagines additional paperwork might solve the problem of people putting vests on their pets and feigning disabilities so they can bring their untrained dogs on planes for free,” he wrote in an op-ed for the Huffington Post. “Does Delta think disability fakers will be unable to upload rabies vaccination certificates on a website? For sighted people, this is a snap. As a blind person who uses a talking computer, I can tell you that navigating websites and uploading documents isn’t easy. In fact, it’s often ridiculously hard.”
