The Year-Round Season of the NFL

Unlike many of its other professional sports leagues, the National Football League has managed to expand its time in the spotlight outside of its playing season, and into a year-round event. While the playing season technically lasts from September to February, the league has managed to turn its offseason into a pseudo-regular season, keeping the action going from the final whistle of the Super Bowl to the first whistle of the season opener in the fall. For Marketplace, Sports Management Professor Rodney Paul gave his insight into how the league has been able to accomplish this.

“I think they really achieved a nice balance of being able to have events that people continuously look forward to during the offseason,” he said. This spacing, he said, keeps the fans buzzing and excited about other events until the games begin again.
