Interest in attending Syracuse University grew significantly this admissions cycle. That’s according to Syracuse University’s Office of Admissions, which today announced a record-setting year for first-year undergraduate applications.

As of Jan. 29, the number of applications received totaled 34,614. This marks a 5.7 percent increase from this time last year. Applications for early decision also reached a record-level high, with a 2.5 percent increase from last year.

“The record-setting number of applications, as well as the diversity and impressive qualifications of the applicants, reflects the significant interest students and families have in a Syracuse education and the strength of the Syracuse name in the marketplace,” says Maurice Harris, dean of undergraduate admissions. “As the University advances the Academic Strategic Plan, Invest Syracuse and Campus Framework, prospective students and families recognize the return on investment, the value and the quality of the Syracuse student experience inside and outside the classroom.”

The applicant pool is more diverse, with students of color representing 37 percent of all applicants this year compared to 36 percent last year.

“Syracuse University has a long history and deep commitment to attracting and enrolling a diverse and talented student body. The applicant pool is reflective of our ongoing commitment to access, inclusion and academic excellence,” says Harris.
