Onondaga Citizens League Invites Public to Discuss ‘State of Community Engagement Infrastructure in CNY’

The Onondaga Citizens League (OCL) has announced the kick-off of its 2017/18 study, “The State of the Community Engagement Infrastructure in CNY.”

Using community input, the study committee will look at the state of community engagement in the region—who is involved, who is not, and why? Is there a need for a more engaged citizenry? Is it part of our civic responsibility to become involved in issues that affect us?

The first study session will be held at the Central Library Downtown, 447 S. Salina St., Syracuse, on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from noon-1:30 p.m. OCL’s study sessions are free and open to the public. There is on-street parking or there is a lot on the corner of Salina and Onondaga streets. The lot is accessible by either Onondaga or Clinton Street. Please enter the library via Salina Street.

Several speakers will share their perspectives on who/what inspired them to become activists for causes that affect all of us. They will give tips on how to become more involved citizens.

Attendees are invited to bring a bag lunch. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.

For additional information, contact study co-chair Tom Carlin at tomcarlin1957@gmail.com or program administrator Eileen Jevis at ejevis@uc.syr.edu.

The OCL is a nonprofit, nonpartisan citizen-based group designed to promote civic education and involvement in public affairs. Its members research and propose solutions to issues facing Central New York. OCL then generates reports offering specific recommendations for addressing the problem.

Information about OCL is available through the OCL office at 315-443-4846, by e-mail at OCL@syr.edu or via the web site at http://onondagacitizensleague.org.
