SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Chronicle of Higher Education Buildings & Grounds section noted the Syracuse University College of Law plans for construction of a new building with support from the Dineen family gift.

“The Yellow Rose of Texas” (McFarland & Co. 2010), a new graphic novel by Douglas Brode, adjunct professor in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, illustrated by SU alumnus Joe Orsak, was featured in the Post-Standard.

SU Bookstore Book Fair events during ArtsWeek were noted in Syracuse New Times and Post-Standard stories. Leah Deyneka, academic support coordinator for the bookstore, was quoted in the New Times piece and the South Side Initiative was mentioned.

“Moonfixer: The Basketball Journey of Earl Lloyd,” published by SU Press, was reviewed in the Erie Times-News and featured in a Sean Kirst Syracuse.com posting about book signings at the SU Bookstore’s Book Fair on Friday.

Syracuse International Film Festival’s sponsorship of the Syracuse Short Film Festival on August 14 was noted briefly in the Post-Standard.

SU Engagement Fellow Genevieve Babecki was featured in a Syracuse.com story about La Casita Cultural Center. The Near Westside Initiative and College of Arts and Sciences faculty members Silvio Torres-Saillant and Inmaculada Lara-Bonilla are also mentioned in the article.

A photo from SU’s Say Yes Summer Festival in Thornden Park was published in Syracuse.com.

FACULTY QUOTES

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, commented for a Wall Street Journal article about the possible extension of Bush-era tax cuts.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a CNN story defending reality TV, a Los Angeles Times article about President Obama’s appearance on “The View” program, and a Baltimore Sun story on vintage fashion popularized by the “Mad Men” series.
