The Rev. Geoffrey Black, United Church of Christ general minister and president elect, will preach at the Protestant Service of Worship at Syracuse University’s Hendricks Chapel on Sunday, Sept. 13.
The service begins at 11 a.m. in the main chapel, and all are welcome to attend.
A resident of DeWitt, Black has led the UCC’s New York Conference since 2000. Ecumenical commitment, a concern for equal justice, African American empowerment and community improvement have shaped Black’s ministry in the churches he has led and the communities in which he has lived. He has served as a chaplain at Brown University and ministered in churches in Queens and Hempstead, N.Y., before joining the denomination’s national staff in Cleveland.
Black is a graduate of Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and Yale Divinity School.
Protestant Campus Ministry (PCM) serves the students, faculty, staff and alumni of SU and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, offering traditional worship with a progressive theology. PCM is supported by local churches and denominational bodies of the American Baptist Church, Presbyterian Church USA, United Church of Christ and the United Methodist Church.
