Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
This past weekend, tens of thousands of families, friends and loved ones converged on campus to celebrate the academic achievements of roughly 7,000 Syracuse University students. A highly symbolic ritual, Commencement marks not only the end of a journey, but also the beginning of a new one.
New life also abounds in the Syracuse University Campus Framework, which I am pleased to share with you today. Literally hundreds of you have worked on the Campus Framework for the past three years, particularly since we released the draft overview last June. I remain grateful for your assistance.
The Campus Framework is part of Fast Forward Syracuse, a three-pronged initiative conceived in June 2014 that includes the Academic Strategic Plan and Operational Excellence. The overarching goal of the Campus Framework is to ensure that the University’s physical landscape, buildings and infrastructure align with and support the priorities of the Academic Strategic Plan, as well as our institutional mission and vision.
The full report provides a roadmap for achieving this goal. It addresses immediate needs, but also articulates how we envision the evolution of the campus landscape in the years ahead. Through implementation of the Campus Framework, we will advance learning and scholarship, enhance access and support an outstanding student experience for our diverse campus community.
In today’s higher education environment, great universities do not remain static. They embrace change and the evolving needs and expectations of students, our communities and the world. The Campus Framework will help maximize our physical spaces and resources to provide a world-class experience for members of our campus community. The plan is aspirational and achievable, as well as dynamic and incremental, outlining a vision for priorities in the years and decades ahead.
We cannot do this all-important work without your time, talent and dedication. It is an exciting time in the life of the University, and I am delighted to share it with you. Thank you for your ongoing involvement, as Syracuse University embarks on a new journey of greatness.
