Susan Arbetter
The Onondaga Citizens League (OCL) has announced that Susan Arbetter, director of news and public affairs at WCNY and host of the “Capitol Pressroom” radio show, will be the keynote speaker at the annual OCL meeting.
Arbetter will discuss the importance of civic engagement during her presentation “Just Do It: Why Meaningful Democracy Requires Action.” She is the recipient of more than 30 awards for electronic journalism, including a 2013 Emmy Award for Best Public Affairs Series for the television show “Insight” and a 2016 Emmy nomination for Best Political Program, “Connect: NY.”
The 2016/17 OCL Study, “How CNY Works,” will be presented at the meeting. The yearlong study takes a look at the history of work in Central New York, examines the present economic ecosystem, and explores current and future job trends in our region.
The June 13 annual meeting luncheon will be held at Drumlins Country Club, 1800 Nottingham Road, Syracuse. Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m., and the luncheon meeting will begin at noon. It is open to the community. Reservations are required. Individual tickets are $40 for OCL members and $45 for non-members. OCL is a unique membership organization, open to all citizens, able to look at any issue that affects the community’s economic health and quality of life. OCL seeks to advance its study recommendations, working with other groups toward implementation. Since its founding in 1978, OCL has issued 36 reports, which are available on the league’s website.
