The Office of the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs is hosting the next Focus on Assessment workshop, Outcomes-Based Assessment to Support Student Learning and Development, to be held Tuesday, Feb. 14. This workshop is specifically intended for co-curricular and student support units.

Marilee Bresciani Ludvik will explain how to effectively engage in outcomes-based assessment within co-curricular and student service units; present strategies for addressing the range of challenges and barriers student service practitioners are likely to face; address institutional, divisional and departmental collaboration; and consider future developments in the assessment of student success. Participants will explore what good outcomes-based assessment practice looks like and how other units have initiated and conducted their process.

The workshop goals are to illustrate the components of outcomes-based assessment, present criteria for identifying good practices and suggest steps for implementing a sustainable outcomes-based assessment program. Participants will have time to work on and refine their assessment and action plans. Attendees are asked to bring copies of their unit’s assessment plans, laptops and anything else needed to work during the workshop.

This is a full day workshop running from 9 a.m. to noon and continuing from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It will be held in the Comstock Room of the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel and Conference Center. Lunch is on your own from noon to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be provided in the morning and afternoon. Attendees are asked to arrive between 8:40 a.m. and 9 a.m. so that the workshop can start promptly at 9 a.m. If you have any questions please contact us at assessment@syr.edu.

Ludvik serves as professor of postsecondary educational leadership at San Diego State University, where she coordinates the mindfulness-based integrative inquiry program. She previously served as the assistant vice president for institutional assessment at Texas A&M University and as the coordinator of undergraduate assessment at North Carolina State University. Ludvik is the coauthor of “Demonstrating Student Success in Student Affairs” (2010) and author of “Outcomes-Based Academic and Co-Curricular Program Review: A Compilation of Institutional Good Practices” (2006).
