SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

A New York Times article highlights Chancellor Nancy Cantor as being among the leaders of the revitalization of Syracuse’s Near West Side. The article focuses on the work that the University is doing in collaboration with Home Headquarters and area businesses to redevelop properties in the area.

SU’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) is mentioned in a Star-Telegram editorial on the issue of deporting students living in the U.S. illegally after being brought in as children. TRAC information is also cited in a Patriot Ledger editorial on the truths behind immigration deportations.

The Post-Standard, WSYR-AM, WSYR-TV, and other local and national media outlets reported on alumnus Sean O’Keefe and his son, SU sophomore Kevin O’Keefe, surviving a plane crash on an Alaskan mountainside yesterday.

The Associated Press reported on the efforts of government officials to recover the medical files of  convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi. A Buffalo News editorial advocated for a probe into his compassionate release a year ago.

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, was quoted on MSNBC on the Pentagon’s trial of child soldier Omar Khadr at Guantanamo Bay. He is also quoted in BBC News Magazine on the war crimes trial of Liberian President Charles Taylor.

Marek Kos, research associate in the Department of Physics in The College of Arts & Sciences, was recently quoted in BBC News and Canada’s National Post on improved detection of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles, which make up dark matter.

R&D Magazine reported on the research by College of Arts & Sciences professors Scott Pitnick, John Belote and Mollie Manier that highlights previously unobservable events occurring between insemination and fertilization by genetically altering fruit flies.
