Medical-legal partnerships to be explored at June 5 conferenceMay 29, 2009Jaclyn D. Grossojgrosso@law.syr.edu

Syracuse University College of Law and the Syracuse Family Advocacy Program will host a conference, “Medical-Legal Partnerships: NY Professionals Working Together to Improve Health Care,” on Friday, June 5, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in Grant Auditorium. This multidisciplinary event brings together leading professionals from the fields of law, medicine and social work to discuss the impact of social determinants on health and to identify planning and sustainability strategies for implementing medical-legal partnerships.

“There is currently a strong national movement to bring doctors and lawyers together to work collaboratively on behalf of patients. Through our work with the Syracuse Family Advocacy Program, we’ve seen first hand how this dynamic teamwork can positively impact the health outcomes for many children,” says Heidi White McCormick, executive director of the Family Law & Social Policy Center at SU College of Law and the conference organizer. “We are excited to have this opportunity to assist with the development of similar medical-legal partnerships in communities across the state.”

CLE credits can be earned for attending some of the conference sessions. For more information or to register online, visit http://www.law.syr.edu/mlpconference. Lunch and free parking on campus are available.

The conference is sponsored by the New York State Health Foundation, the New York State Coalition of Medical-Legal Partnerships and the Health Law section of the New York State Bar Association.
