Annual Strawberry Festival to be held June 12May 20, 2009Eileen Jevisejevis@uc.syr.edu

University College and the Department of Recreation Services invite all students, faculty and staff to take part in the 2009 Strawberry Festival on Friday, June 12, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. This year’s event will be student-centered and offer a radio broadcast, a sidewalk chalk art contest and a farmer’s market, as well as the annual Strawberry Fun Run and Walk.

The walk and uncertified run will begin at noon on the Quad and will proceed along Comstock Avenue to Oakwood Morningside Cemetery and back to the Quad. All participants in the walk and run will be eligible for several raffle prizes. Event prizes and raffles will be awarded on the steps of Hendricks Chapel following the walk. To register, arrive on the Quad at 11 a.m. and go to the Recreation Services tent, or download and fill out the registration form online at http://recreationservices.syr.edu and then return the form to Scott Catucci, Department of Recreation Services, 241 Archbold Gym.

Registered students can sign up for the sidewalk chalk art contest that begins at 10 a.m. and be eligible to win prizes, including SU sweatshirts, football tickets and T-shirts. Visit http://www.yesu.syr.edu/splash/StrawberryFest/ChalkContest09.pdf to download a registration form and return it to Eileen Jevis, University College, 700 University Ave. Event prizes and raffles will be awarded on the steps of Hendricks Chapel at 1:15 p.m.

The Strawberry Festival is a tradition that offers students, faculty and staff an opportunity to learn about the many services provided by campus departments and offices through the service “trade show.”

Strawberry sundae tickets are $4 pre-event. Tickets for sundaes are on sale June 8-11 in the Carrier Dome Concession office. Send an I.D. with ticket delivery instructions, including a room number, to Carole Harris, or stop by Carrier Dome Concessions after June 1.

In case of rain, the walk and run will be held as planned. The “trade show” of University departments will be held on the Quad as planned, and the chalk art contest will take place in the Huntington-Beard-Crouse Hall lobby. Desserts only will be served on the patio of HBC (no picnic food).

For more information, contact Eileen Jevis at 443-3527 or ejevis@uc.syr.edu, or Scott Catucci at 443-0290 or sacatucc@syr.edu.
