Syracuse University Senior Class Council hosts kick-off event for Class of 2009 giving campaignMarch 20, 2009Kevin Morrowkdmorrow@syr.edu

Student leaders of the Class of 2009 giving campaign are hosting a campaign kick-off event on Sunday, March 22, from 2-5 p.m. at the Inn Complete. The event celebrates the launch of an effort by SU’s senior class to join together to give to Syracuse University. Organized by the Class Council of 2009, the Class of 2009 giving campaign represents the first class giving effort at SU in nearly 14 years. The kick-off celebration will include complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. It is open to all SU students, especially the senior class, as well as faculty, staff and alumni.

“We hope all seniors will attend this event,” says Class Council of 2009 President Samina Noorani. “It’s a way for us to continue spreading the word on the importance of philanthropy in support of future SU students. Time is of the essence. We need to rally our class together now to make sure this effort really has an impact.” All event attendees will automatically be entered in drawings for items such as “The Express” DVD, a coupon for a free 2009 Onondagan yearbook and 44 baseball caps and T-shirt.

The afternoon will also include an introduction of class council officers, the announcement of campaign goals, current totals and participation rates, and opportunities to give online.

The primary focus of the Class of 2009 giving campaign is to establish a scholarship for a first-year student who demonstrates both an outstanding academic record and financial need; for this purpose, gifts can be directed to the Class of 2009 Undergraduate Scholarship Fund. A gift may also be directed to support a wide variety of opportunities on campus, including facility and technology upgrades, research initiatives, scholarships, student life or an individual school or college of the donating student’s choice.
