Syracuse University kicks off its 2008 United Way fundraising efforts Saturday, Sept. 27, with the annual Dollar Day at the Dome corresponding with the SU-Pittsburgh football game. More than 150 student members of Greek organizations will be stationed at Carrier Dome entrances and on the Quad soliciting donations for the local United Way. Patrons who donate will be investing in the dozens of agencies financially supported locally by the United Way. Service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega will assist in counting donations.

The chair of this year’s campus campaign is Christopher Walsh, manager of enrollment management and financial aid. Vice chair is Deborah Monahan, a faculty member from the School of Social Work. Both Walsh and Monahan will lead the campus effort to increase awareness and donations for the local United Way chapter.

Syracuse University employees will have the opportunity for the first time to make their donation to the United Way through E-Pledge, the United Way’s online giving portal. Employees will receive a series of four e-mails soliciting a donation. The e-mail will connect each employee to the United Way website, where the individual can research agency outreach, track personal giving history, and make a secure donation.

Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor will mail a letter to all employees in October confirming the University’s support and encouraging employee participation.

Employees who increase their donations by only a dollar per week, or $52 annually, will be entered to win generous prizes from the United Way, including a $3,000 cash card from Alliance Bank, a Raymour & Flanigan Furniture Home Makeover, a Wegmans Fill Your Fridge gift card, and a Time Warner Cable Hi-Tech Home service package.
