ORL, SU Library to host Third Annual ‘Dark and Brainy Night’ Feb. 29February 21, 2008SU News ServicesSUnews@syr.edu

Syracuse University’s Third Annual Library Lock-In, “It Was a Dark and Brainy Night at E.S. Bird Library,” will be held Friday, Feb. 29, from 10 p.m.-2 a.m. During this popular event, teams of undergraduate students explore E.S. Bird Library and compete to answer challenging questions and puzzles based on library resources.

The winning team will win a $275 gift certificate from the University Bookstore, with other prizes to include gift cards for Carousel Mall, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble and other merchants.

Students must register to participate; registration is limited to 120 openings (60 two-person teams), and registration fee is $5 per student. Registration forms are available at all residence hall main desks, the Goldstein Student Center, the Office of Residence Life (ORL) at 111 Waverly Ave. and E.S. Bird Library’s main desk. Forms and fees should be returned to the ORL office by Friday, Feb. 22.

The event is co-hosted by ORL’s Academic and Intellectual Initiatives Committee and the Syracuse University Library.

For event information, e-mail Terra Peckskamp, director of learning communities for student affairs, at tlpecksk@syr.edu.

SU students, faculty and staff are also invited to volunteer as facilitators for this event; a flexible schedule of shifts is available. To volunteer, e-mail ksamec@syr.edu with your preferred shift: 9 p.m.-midnight; 11:30 p.m.-2:30 a.m.; or 9 p.m.-2:30 a.m. Confirmations will be sent to each volunteer in advance of the event.
