Green & Seifter partners with Whitman for 7th annual accounting challengeNovember 26, 2007Amy Schmitzaemehrin@syr.edu

The Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University will host the 7th annual Green & Seifter Accounting Challenge on Friday, Nov. 30. Teams of 10 accounting students will compete from Central New York colleges and universities, including Le Moyne College, Ithaca College, the SUNY College at Oswego and SU. The game show-style challenge will take place in the Lender Auditorium from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

The Jeopardy!-themed game features questions related to accounting, auditing, tax and business. Teams from each school have been preparing for the event with faculty advisors in hopes of winning a trophy, valuable prizes and recognition from the accounting industry. This year’s event includes a trivia board with a new special category celebrating Green & Seifter CPAs’ 50th anniversary.

The challenge features distinguished judges with extensive knowledge and achievements in accounting. Past judges include Mary-Jo Kranacher, editor-in-chief of The CPA Journal; Mark T. Park, special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Edward S. Green, founder of Green & Seifter CPAs; Randal J. Elder, professor in the Whitman School and director of the Joseph I. Lubin School of Accounting; and Philip LaTessa, city auditor for the City of Syracuse.

“The Green & Seifter Accounting Challenge is an innovative way to bring together Central New York accounting students and local accounting firms,” says Elder. “The game is definitely challenging but entertaining and showcases Central New York’s leading accounting students. Green & Seifter CPAs is a prominent and influential firm here in Syracuse, and their involvement and dedication to students is incredibly valuable.”

Founded in 1957 by Edward S. Green, Green & Seifter CPAs is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary in Syracuse. Green & Seifter CPAs’ services include financial planning, business planning and valuation, and fraud prevention and detection, in addition to traditional accounting and tax services. Green & Seifter CPAs is the exclusive area member of IGAF Worldwide, an international group of accounting firms that uphold strict quality service standards.
