Larry Kramer, former president of MarketWatch, to speak at Whitman on entrepreneurship and mediaSeptember 16, 2007Amy Schmitzaemehrin@syr.edu

Larry Kramer ’72 (Newhouse), senior advisor at Polaris Venture Partners, will speak at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 5 pm. The lecture, titled “The Entrepreneurial Journey — How to Get a Major Media Company With 1,600 Financial Journalists to Pay $528 million for an Internet Company With 100 Financial Journalists,” will take place in the Lender Auditorium, located on the concourse level of the Whitman School building. The lecture is free and open to the public. Paid parking is available at the University Avenue Garage. This event is organized and sponsored by the Whitman School’s E-Club student organization.

After graduating from SU with a B.S. in journalism and political science, Kramer earned his M.B.A. at Harvard University. He then worked as a reporter for The San Francisco Examiner, The Washington Post and The Times (Trenton, N.J.) Following his career in journalism, Kramer founded DataSport, before joining Data Broadcasting Corp. and proposing the creation of MarketWatch, a joint venture between Data Broadcasting Corp. and CBS.

Kramer previously served as president of CBS Digital Media, a newly created division within CBS, overseeing all developing new media operations for CBS, including CBS.com, CBS SportsLine.com, CBSNews.com and UPN.com, as well as a new sales operation that will serve them. In 2007, he was appointed to his current position to collaborate with Polaris Venture Partner in managing its media portfolio.

For more information on the lecture or the Whitman School’s student E-Club, contact Sarah Frank, E-Club president, at sbfrank@mailbox.syr.edu.
