The Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University will host a lecture by Melissa Long ’97, news anchor with CNN Pipeline, CNN.com’s live video news service, on Friday, April 13, at 5 p.m. in Lender Auditorium in the Whitman School building. Her presentation, “CNN Pipeline: Extending audience viewing through the use of the Internet,” is free and open to the public. Paid public parking is available in the University Avenue Garage.

Long also anchors “Now in the News,” a Web- and wireless-exclusive news update. She joined CNN in 2005 after working as an anchor and reporter for WROC-TV in Rochester. Prior to WROC, Long worked at WKTV in Utica and at WIXT-TV and WAER-FM in Syracuse.

Her reports on heart disease, stress, substance abuse and development in the Adirondack Mountains earned Long several awards from the New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Association and the New York State Broadcasters Association. She also earned an award from the Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) for a series of reports about mental illness.

A mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America since 2000, Long was named Rochester’s Big Sister of the Year in 2002. She graduated from SU with a dual degree in policy studies and broadcast journalism and went on to receive an M.B.A. from the Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester.
