Whitman launches summer business program for undergraduatesFebruary 19, 2007Amy Schmitzaemehrin@syr.edu

This summer, undergraduate students from around the nation who are in good academic standing will have the opportunity to explore the world of business in a two-week summer program offered through the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. The Summer Experience in Business for Undergraduates (SEBU) program allows students from non-business disciplines to explore various careers in business while getting the opportunity to better understand the functional areas of business and how they integrate to create a successful enterprise.

“We are very excited to bring students to Whitman from around the state and country to allow them to see the benefits of an education in business,” says Melvin T. Stith, dean of the Whitman School. “Students will be able to work in teams and through this build an understanding of how business can be incorporated into any discipline.”

SEBU runs from May 14-26, with housing and meals included for each student who is accepted. This, along with a $1,500 stipend and travel costs to and from Syracuse, will be covered by the Whitman School. Prerequisites to apply include a GPA of 3.25 or above, one year of finite math, good aptitude for problem- solving and American citizenship or permanent resident status in the United States.

To apply, students must submit an application, including a response to an ethical dilemma, to SEBU, Martin J. Whitman School of Management, 721 University Ave., Syracuse, N.Y. 13244. The application can be accessed at http://whitman.syr.edu/Pdfs/0SEBU Application.pdf.
