Architect Douglas Garofalo, professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Architecture and founder of Garofalo Architects in Chicago, will speak at the Syracuse University School of Architecture on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 4:30 p.m. in the main auditorium of the school’s home, The Warehouse, 350 W. Fayette St. His lecture, “Architectural Ecosystems,” is free and open to the public.

An exhibition of the work of Garofalo’s studio, titled “Garofalo Architects,” will be on display at the Architecture Gallery at The Warehouse from March 9 through April 6. Mark Linder, chair of graduate programs at the School of Architecture, will present “Constructed Improvisations,” a gallery talk on the exhibition, on March 21 at 4:30 p.m. in the Architecture Gallery, followed by a reception. Garofalo Architects, established by Garofalo in 1988, has been widely recognized for its innovative and creative approaches to the art of building. With projects that vary in scale and location, the firm has actively pursued architectural design to include forms of collaboration that cross both geographical boundaries and professional disciplines, extending conventional design practices by taking full advantage of the capacity of electronic media. The work of the firm has been recently recognized as part of “The New Vanguard” in Architectural Record and the “Emerging Voices” program at the Architectural League of New York.

Garofalo holds a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master of architecture degree from Yale University, and was a recipient of the prestigious Skidmore Owings & Merrill Foundation Traveling Fellowship.

His projects include the Hyde Park Art Center outside Chicago, the Korean Presbyterian Church of New York in Queens, the Spring Prairie Residence in Wisconsin and the Richmond Center for Visual Arts at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.
