Whitman School presents ‘Insight CNY: An Entrepreneurial Vision for Growth’October 18, 2006Amy Schmitzaemehrin@syr.edu

In order for Central New York to successfully compete on a national and international level in terms of economic growth, it’s important for community members to understand the importance of entrepreneurship and new business development.

These issues will be discussed and analyzed at “Insight CNY,” an event sponsored by the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (WISE) and Sensis Corp. on Thursday, Oct. 26. The event, which will take place in Goldstein Auditorium in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center from 4-7:30 p.m., will feature Dame Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop.

“Insight CNY” will begin with a discussion panel featuring Jud Gostin, president of Sensis Corp.; Carol Constantino, president of The Noteworthy Corp.; David Montanaro, chairman and CEO of USA Datanet; and Michael J. Falcone, chairman of The Pioneer Cos. The discussion panel will be followed by Roddick’s keynote speech.

Thirty years ago, Roddick, an aspiring entrepreneur, opened a small shop in Brighton, England. Today, The Body Shop is an internationally recognized company known for producing new and innovative ways to sell bath and body products.

Roddick has won many awards for her contributions to the environment and human rights, including the Center for World Development Education’s World Vision Award, Women’s Center Leadership and U.N. Environment Programme Honoree Eyes on the Environment.

Roddick’s recently published book, “Business as Usual: My Entrepreneurial Journey Profits With Principal” (Anita Roddick Press, 2005), can be purchased at the event. An autograph session will also be held during the reception.

Tickets can be purchased for $75 through Oct. 23 and are available online at http://www.insightcny.com or http://www.whitman.syr.edu/eee/insightcny. For reservations, contact Lindsay Wickham at (315) 443-3550 or lwickham@syr.edu.
