Intelligence expert to present March 30 University LectureMarch 25, 2004Patrick Farrellpmfarrel@syr.edu

Appointed by President George W. Bush to the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board and the Intelligence Oversight Board, Rita Hauser is uniquely qualified to provide a behind-the-headlines look at the current state of U.S. foreign policy and the war on terror. In the final presentation of this year’s University Lectures series at Syracuse University, Hauser will share her expertise on the timely subjects of intelligence, security and terrorism on Tuesday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Hauser’s passionate interest in world peace, security, and human rights has led her to serve as the U.S. Representative to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, and on commissions affiliated with the U.S. Department of State, the Brookings Institution and the International Center for Peace in the Middle East. She chairs the International Peace Academy and the Advisory Board of the Rand Center for Middle East Public Policy and serves as a director for organizations including the Rand Corporation, the International Institute For Strategic Studies in London and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

An accomplished international lawyer interested in conflict resolution, security and human rights, Hauser was a senior partner for more than 20 years at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in New York City. As president of The Hauser Foundation, she is known for her outstanding public service and philanthropic work.

The University Lectures is a cross-disciplinary lecture series that brings to the University individuals of exceptional accomplishment in the areas of architecture and design; the humanities and the sciences; and public policy, management and communications. The series is supported by the generosity of the University’s Trustees, alumni and friends. For more information, call (315) 443-3784 or visit http://provost.syr.edu/lectures/.
