CMS announces plans for June 14 outageJune 06, 2003Judy Holmesjlholmes@syr.edu

On June 14, Physical Plant will be upgrading the electrical system. All computing and network systems housed in Machinery Hall will be unavailable for use by the University community from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. In addition, the University’s voice mail system will be unavailable during the power outage. This planned power outage is the final phase in the process to upgrade electrical services in Machinery Hall.

Affected computing and network systems will include: SUMMON, SUMMON2, SUMMON3; GroupWise and webmail.syr.edu; Orangemail; the Internet via on-campus connections; all www.syr.edu Web sites; First-Step (Single Sign-On), PeopleSoft and other client-server systems; CMS public computing lab machines; and SU Library services systems accessed both on- and off-campus.

For information about how individual departmental servers will be affected by the outage, contact local computing support staff members.

CMS recommends restarting PCs and all printers upon return to work on June 16.

CMS has planned carefully for this power outage and has taken precautions that are designed to avoid service disruptions beyond the planned outage window, but there is always a risk that the unforeseen could occur. If users experience any computing or networking problems June 14 after 4 p.m., they should check the CMS Alerts Page at http://cms.syr.edu/ for updates. If the page is not available, call the Information Center at 443-2677 or e-mail consult@syr.edu.
