GIGA Information Group collaborates with Syracuse University to analyze electronic trading networksOctober 11, 2001Judy Holmesjlholmes@syr.edu

Giga Information Group, Inc. (OTC BB: GIGX), a leading advisory firm for business and technology executives, has teamed with Syracuse University’s Center for Digital Commerce (CDC), part of the School of Information Studies, to complete an analysis of the electronic trading network (ETN) market. The analysis revealed that the ETN market is still emerging and in its infancy, but the underlying logic and capability of ETNs will find a justified place among firms needing ETN services.

As opposed to value-added networks, ETNs provide functionality for firms over the Internet by supporting an array of features such as improved security, guaranteed service levels, 24×7 command center support, reporting and auditing. The CDC report, “An Analysis of the Emerging Electronic Trading Network Market,” examines key issues related to this emerging Internet-based communications alternative, outlines the overall characteristics of the ETN market and identifies several major ETN providers. It also summarizes interview results from six ETN providers dealing with such topics as competition, flexibility, integration, scalability and future positioning for these ETN providers. “We are moving rapidly to address the increasing need to identify emerging drivers for electronic commerce and market expansion, ” says Robert K. Weiler, Giga Information Group’s president,

chairman and chief executive officer. “This expanding relationship with Syracuse University is only the most recent indication that our plan to substantially expand cooperative research with the education market is on track and focused on our customers’ need to be prepared for every future opportunity to grow revenue and profitability.” This is one of many initiatives Giga Information Group is planning with other leading educational institutions under its University Project program.

The Center for Digital Commerce is one of six research centers affiliated with the School of Information Services at Syracuse University. The broad purpose of the Center for Digital Commerce is to conduct research and provide strategic analyses in all areas of digital and electronic commerce together with its faculty, students, affiliates, partners and constituents.

“Working with the Giga Information Group is an ideal symbiotic relationship,” says Rolf T. Wigand, professor and director of the Center for Digital Commerce. “We are able to address and research real-life, practical needs of cutting-edge businesses while conducting solid research with academic rigor. Both Giga and the participating students with the Center for Digital Commerce benefit from this relationship immensely.”

The School of Information Studies at Syracuse University is a leading center for innovative programs in information policy, information behavior, information management, information systems, information technology and information services. The school has professional degree programs at the undergraduate and master’s levels and a research degree at the doctoral level. The school also has a distance education program at the graduate level.

Giga Information Group is a leading global technology advisory firm that provides objective research, pragmatic advice, and personalized consulting. Emphasizing close interaction between analysts and clients, Giga enables companies to make better strategic decisions that maximize technology investments and achieve business results.

Founded in 1996, Giga is headquartered in Cambridge, Mass. and has more than 15 offices throughout the Americas and Europe-as well as offices in Latin America, Asia/Pacific and the Middle East. For additional information, visit www.gigaweb.com.
