Research posters are used widely across the academic community, and many conferences include a poster session as part of their programming. In addition, many courses require poster presentations for final projects, to showcase a semester’s research or get early feedback on research ideas.
School of Information Studies (iSchool) assistant professor Jeff Hemsley has created a how-to video for preparing and presenting an academic research poster.
He covers what to expect of the experience, how to prepare a poster, how to present the poster at an event and how to work a crowd while explaining poster content.
At the iSchool, Hemsley teaches a course on “Information Visualization” (IST 719), with the final projects presented at a school-wide poster session at the conclusion of every semester.
