New Access Procedures for All Academic Buildings to Take Effect Monday

Designated open doors, card-only access provide enhanced campus safety.
Oct. 29, 2026

Beginning Monday, Nov. 1, new building access procedures will be implemented for all academic buildings at Syracuse University.

New Access Procedures

  • Monday–Friday, 6:45 a.m.–5:30 p.m.: Entry through designated open doors.
  • Monday–Friday, outside those hours: Entry with a valid SU ID card.
  • Weekends: Entry with a valid SU ID card at all times.

Each school and college has worked with the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to determine which doors will remain open during weekday hours and which will be card access only. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to carry their SU ID cards when visiting academic buildings early in the morning, in the evening or on weekends.

The new procedures follow a successful a pilot program involving Huntington Hall, Marley Education Center, Dineen Hall and Comstock Art Facility that was implemented by DPS last year. Lessons from that program have informed the campuswide rollout of the new procedures.
