Chancellor J. Michael Haynie sits down with Thomas O’Brien ’26 of the Center for the Creator Economy for a wide-ranging ‘CUSE Q&A. Haynie traces the winding path that brought him to Syracuse nearly 20 years ago and reflects on what it means to be the first internally selected chancellor in more than 50 years.

In the conversation, Haynie also makes the case that doubling down on academic excellence is what will allow Syracuse to thrive and argues the University must build opportunities that are “uniquely Syracuse.” He also talks about the obligation he feels to the 24,000 students and families who trust the University every day, and the stories across campus that SU has yet to tell.
